:: 3 Types of Bloggers ::

I've come to conclude that like volcanoes, there are three main types of bloggers:

Active bloggers are your diehards who clock in an average of 2-3 hours a day posting entries and checking out other blogs. An Active views blogging as a form of release and the pleasure of it all keeps them coming back for more. As they are writing their latest entry, they're thinking of what to write for the next five. They go cold turkey after two days of not checking their blog and when someone leaves a comment, they get a tiny rush that's not unlike the feeling of receiving mail in the letterbox. They typically have a site meter on their blog to check out the number of hits. Together with fellow bloggers, they form a tight niche Pacific Ring of Fire.

Dormant bloggers, arh...these are another breed. They blog occasionally when some sparks goes off in their heads and write only when they've something substantial to contribute. Dormants write when they 'feel like it'. They are like your sleeping volcanoes who wake up and erupt once in a while to let others know they're still there.

Extinct bloggers are bloggers no more. They set up an account, post a few entries, lose the initial enthusiasm and close shop a few days later. From time to time, they may check out other blogs but largely speaking, they've left the blogging scene, in which case, they are unlikely to have come across this entry. These are your dead volcanoes.

At times, there may be no clear distinction between Actives, Dormants and Extincts. For instance, you could be an Active who displays Active and Dormant symptoms, therefore making you a Hybrid. Currently, I'm a pure Active and if i go on at this rate, i may soon have to check in at Bloggers Anonymous.

Tell us, which type are you and why?

I think you know! : - ) I am starting to live for blogging... I can barely remember what life was like in January before I started blogging! Oh, oh, this is starting to sound a little obsessive...shall we start a new support blog together called B.A. (Blogger's Anonymous!) We can start a three step program and offer cures for the obsessive compulsive blogger!

(p.s. just kidding!)

hey hulai! yes, blogs are a great avenue to let loose some steam..often, you might find you're not alone in going through some problems too.

it has often been noted that people who keep diaries enjoy a better state of mental health. this holds true for bloggers too. i look forward to finding out more abt you on your blog. cheers-

I like the analogy between volcanos and bloggers. Three types of classification is general but you can subdivide them further as you learn more about the world of blogs.

I probably belong to just the dominant blog category. Can't say I am active, since I don't update my blog daily though I do look forward to comments and discussion with other bloggers. I am very cautious of my own entries so only when I am certain I am not just filling up empty space but ensure it involves the elaboration on some worthy topic of discussion.

Besides all that, my entries can never be filled with that much heart and spirit as yours.

hi trowa,

what other subdivisions are there? i prefer them to be volcano-related haha..that's the theme.

do you mean to say dormant? yes, as i was penning the entry, i thot you're positively a dormant..the sleeping giant.

i love your comments on heart and spirit. i put alot of my wacky personality to what i write. some people like it, others think its annoying..but mostly, i enjoy it.

i understand that you're very selective with your topics..which are often in line with your concerns in our society. i'm waiting and waiting for your next entry so we can have a mini-discussion on your blog..

woah.

k, this time i returned intentionally and was so shocked to see 11 comments. hahahaha.

so, anyway, i was bored last night and went around reading random pple's blogs. some were quite interesting... and i did notice some who were active and dormant and those who made a blog with a single post and then that's it. but perhaps the analogy breaks down when you consider pple who aren't purely active or dormant... cos volcanoes are usually one type or the other. hm. just an opinion.

haha, i know where singapore is... i know a lot about it in fact. hahaha. i grew up there! stayed in serangoon gardens. it's practically home to me even though i'm not singaporean... but i'm now here in Ann Arbor to study in the U of Michigan. and singapore is more accurately 13 hours ahead... heh, i guess it was a pretty good guess when i guessed that you were in singapore...

heh, i'll drop by again soon...

I don't have a systematic account of alternative classifications but in general, you can find other random categories like, e.g. political blogs, teenage-angst blogs, personal ramblings and indulgence blogs, etc.

Oh yeah and I meant to say dormant. Don't ever be like me, stick to your active, wacky and energetic self.

yes, winston, i figured you were from singapore after reading your blog.

so any suggestions for those standing in between active and passive? i like
hybrids..thou they're not volcano-related.

chill..
