the.need.for.space

Growing up in a very small country, I long for open spaces where I can take a breather. Space is a rare and expensive commodity in Singapore. Every little area of space has been converted into blocks of buildings, malls etc. We have so many malls in this tiny island...we really don't need another one. What's the point if they're all the same anyway? And because we're so small, everywhere I go is so crowded. Often, I end up getting more bothered than relaxed, after a day out.

To avoid all of that, Kamahl and I have taken to the beaches to unwind regularly. But even the beaches are getting crowded, especially the food centres.

Strangely enough, I've come to the realisation that this is not where I would like to spend the rest of my life in. I don't know..maybe in time to come, I'll have a change of mind. But I'm really quite sick of how cluttered and crowded this place is. I've no room for thoughts, no space for freedom. If I have a choice, I would make room for nature. I would leave the little pockets of whatever jungle, bonafide rivers we've, alone. But I don't.

In the end, I just have to retire to my cosy, yellow room, which is sadly, the only santuary I know of.

@jadebangle- Buddha is right. Nothing beats a clear mind. But that aside,I also want physical space!

@viv- yes, watching amazing race gives me an idea just how crowded bangalore is..but at least the people there are so nice and humble (that's the impression i get) here, people are often impatient and rude. (I'm quite sad to tell you this)i think that adds to my frustration and phobia for crowds these days. I much prefer to hang out at quieter places in the company of a few good friends or kamahl :)

So how do you deal with living in one of most populous nations?

Oh well, city is not a place for me either! I want to actually settle down in a remote place and rather lead a simple farmer life - no wonder the old cow boy stuffs / country side things fascinate me
:-)....Atleast the blogger part of me - Phantom - stays deep in the woods on the mountain and pops up and now and then !!!

Anyway, what's up with the farmers and farms? ex-farmgirl carrie underwood (idol contestant) wanted out..haha. Well, i guess i like cows, ducks and chicken too :)I can live with rolling fields too.

@chris-wake up! haha

@hulai-yea..i can do with mountains too. Lead a nomadic life..oh my wanderlust. After a while, i may even reach Nirvana..haha.

A good old farmer undercover as a mysterious phantom !!! Hows that for a change???

*grin*

Well, the legend stories and walking ghost that noone sees but has experienced the goodwill with a certain amt of fear attributed to the character - they fascinate me a lot !!!

PHANTOM...was that what you had in mind when you chose this name..an undercover farmer??? you're...ermmm disillusion, i'm afraid to say! :)))

HULAI, it strikes me that no matter how different we look, how diverse our backgrounds, we're still astoundingly similar.

Everyone of us still wants to retire someone along the lines of mountains, oceans...any for some..farms :)

That's a tough question "So how do you deal with living in one of most populous nations?".

One thing i dislike is about the huge crowd @ every major commerical place in Bang! So never hangout @ these places untill there is an occassion to meet some friends.

There are many thing which i would love to see in Indian metros are less vehicles on road, which contributes to Pollution, Cleaner City, Less crimes.

Hi. First time here via your comment on Chikuado's blog. You've made my day, what with your comment " ...but I'm really quite sick of how cluttered and crowded this place is. I've no room for thoughts, no space for freedom..". HAHAHAHAHA!!!! As they say, the grass might appear greener on the other side but in our country at least, there is not much grass only people, people, people, people, people....get what i mean? In contrast, your city..er, state ...er, country is near perfect as it hums along in its efficiency...enjoy it!!
